Belgium is one of the countries that breathes what we call the Brewing Culture, a tradition that dates back centuries of history, in the manufacture and consumption of the drink. Famous for collecting “Best in the World” titles, whether for the exuberant labels in sensory characteristics, or even for the cultivation of very high quality raw materials, Belgian Beer was declared by Unesco, in 2016, as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity.  

 

Some of the beers produced by the Belgians are iconic, not only for their history and tradition, but for the striking and personality-filled characteristics printed on the drinks, being difficult to reproduce in other countries.  

 

One of the beers, or family of beers, symbols of Belgium, are Lambics. We can say that this family of beers (categorized in the group of European Sour Ale by the BJCP) is the oldest in the world.

The purpose of Bem Belga's “Beer Route” is to experience an immersion in the Belgian beer culture, on tours of the main breweries producing Lambic, Gueuze, Fruit Lambic, Oud Bruin, Flanders Red Ale and Trappist beers. They are beers of high organoleptic complexity and with a lot of local terroir, a true living heritage.

For a better understanding of the various production processes, we chose to visit breweries and blenders. In other words, the participant will have the opportunity to experience both the process on a factory scale and in small productions.

An example are also producers who do not have a manufacturing structure, but buy the brewer's must from a factory and make their specific blends and aging, to later market their beers.

​

Beer is among the main attractions in Belgium, and not for nothing, the number of bars in the country is huge. Here we will see some of the main ones, or better known by Brazilians, who visit the country in search of liquid bread.
